Hughenden

I was in the mood for a visit to a National Trust property and I decided to travel a bit further a field and went to Hughenden. The house opened today.

Given Hughenden's location it was also a sure thing for a year tick..... Red Kite!

Hughenden was the home of Benjamin Disraeli (Victorian PM).

first bumble of the year!

Hughenden was used as an intelligence base called Hillside during WWII. The Trust didn't know until they overheard a grandfather telling his Grandchildren about his war work there! The basement has turned into a recreation of a flat there in WWII and an exhibition.

The National Trust scone blog will be shocked to know that there are no scones before the afternoon!! I had a cuppa and a toasted tea cake and raspberry jam.
