Your dad is photogenic!!! What an expressive face. If I were a portrait painter I would insist he sit for me. I do believe he could inspire me become one.

Dad is very handsome but he always looks the same. Try to get him into a different setting. He wont want to but you can figure it out. Do they ever let you sit on a chair in one of the big houses? Knight in armor?

Lovely photos of your dad Pete. I also liked the first photo of the lily pond and the reflections of trees in a pool (fourth up from last photo).

My real favourite is the Bakery in Lacock - Not sure what it would like in colour but it looks brilliant in bandw.

How kind or otherwise do you want us to be?!!!

I like the headshots of your dad, but as Turquis says, you always shoot him (not literally!) from more or less the same angle. I also think they might look better if his eyes are a bit more open - he seems to have trouble in the sun and he's always squinting.

The other images - some are OK some do not suit black and white. The bakery with the bike outside is nice, as is the reflected trees (5th from end).

the little devil won't pose so I get what I can!! as to his squint. it's a fairly natural look! trust me!!

what ones DON'T work?

Fair enough on both counts.

Generally, a lot of the scenic images are fine, but could do with some boost in contrast. To me, the ones that don't suit the B&W treatment are: 5,6,11,13,15,16,22,23,26,29,33,34. Some of these do not seem to have enough of a tonal contrast or a good focal point.

Not sure if you have followed any links from my sidebar, but Photoreflect has some nice B&W images: http://photoreflect.blogspot.com/search/label/black%20and%20white

Dad will never ever pose so its up to you to concentrate on him and the background and the angle (if you want do that of course.) I love every single one of your landscape shots in color. You have a special eye for that. But Dad is so handsome, I like to see more attention paid to him but you might not have a knack for that so it really doesnt matter at all.

You occasionally shoot lovely old garden statues. You could figure out how to casually guide Dad up face to face with one and then: BAM: shoot him and immediately reward him with a hug.

I like the photos of your dad. He's very handsome. I'm not fond of the black and whites otherwise. For me, colour is better for those shots.

Dad is very handsome but he is always the same head and shoulders shot nicely combed hair. anyhow... the black and white photos from digibird do show how its done. With great black and white photos, color would be a distraction. But with yours, I miss the beautiful color of the objects. Your a great landscape photographer.

although I agree that 5 doesn't work and others would be better in colour I like 10 and the ones of Dyrham and the church oh well. I'll move to plan B :D
