There was a report in the Telegraph which said that Britain's tallest, biggest, oldest and rarest trees have been identified in a new study.
It's an interesting read for British readers for me however the surprise was that there are several tree species of which only specimen exists. One of these single specimens is the Audley End oak (Quercus audleyensis). It was planted at Audley End in 1772, attempts have been made to plant grafts but all of them have died.
Now you know I had never heard of it!! Next time I'm there I will see it out and get a picture for you!! I do hope one day they get a second. I assume they have tried planting Acorns??

As far as I can tell it's not only one specimen, but merely only one specimen in the UK, and it has also been recorded on the continent under the name Quercus x koehnei.
