Great Witley and Hanbury Hall

Back to a few old favourites today!

I went to Witley Court first. Witley is incredibly sad it caught fire in 1938 and today its a ruin but you can still see how magnificent it once was. English Heritage are restoring the gardens.

There is a lovely walk to get there...

The chapel which is attached survived and is the truly wonderful parish church of Great Witley.

Great Witley church has its only tea room! It's not the sort my dad likes as its not cheap but they do a nice range of cakes and the Asparagus soup sounded nice. No I didn't indulge I just had a cuppa and sat in the tea rooms nice gardens and read my book. They were selling these unusual nest boxes.

So on to Hanbury Hall. Over the years the National Trust have really improved the gardens.

After a very nice spicey vegetable soup I went for a stroll around the house.

After another stroll around the gardens I indulged in a cuppa and a slice of ginger and cola cake.

We'll finish with my lone bird pic!

Wow, you've done it again with another fine set of pictures. I drool looking at the flowers. The buildings and grounds are just too wonderful.

I agree; so sad that the building is now a ruin but it has a beauty all of its own.

The Italianate gardens are amazing and the (discreet) gardens (in the picture of the beds in front of the foundtain) really do indicate how big that bed is!!

The B&W really works well with the building; especially the picture with all the arched windows showing the view beyond.

And as for the stained glass windows in the church...

(think I'd better stop now)

Great post Pete and another good day by the sounds of it...

Superb photos again, Pete and it sounds like you had another lovely day.

In particular I love the photos of the auricula and snakeshead fritillary and the black and white are very atmospheric.

Love the unusual nestboxes and the church at Great Witley looks beautiful.

2 more places to add to my "must visit" list :D.
