More like March than May!!

It's not been a particular nice day today, it's grey cold and drizzly. Last weekend I was sat outside enjoying the sun.

I popped into Saffron Walden this morning. Walden is a nice old market town, however the 21st century is intruding. There were leaflets protesting a new out of town Sainsbury's (which is bigger than the out of town Tesco and in town Waitrose combined) and the proposed 50% increase in the Tesco. The leaflet said this would ecimate the centre. I sympathise with this as I like towns like Walden with its mix of speciality shops, antique shops and its old fashioned department store. Of course I am being a bit hypocritical as I like the convenience of a big supermarket.

I think though Walden is losing its battle, its excellent bookshop closed 2 years ago. Still I wish it well.

The church is an imposing site.

I have to agree with you about small towns losing their charm really with the big super stores moving in. That church certainly is an imposing sight. Lovely.

It's sad that our smaller towns/villages etc are getting gobbled up by the "outer edge of town" syndrome. But it is convenient to have the larger stores. But we sacrifice the character to have that it seems.

Great pics; the arches are wonderful in the detail and those organ pipes are very decorative - just like a fanfare!
