The death of a language

The death of Boa Sr at 85 in India's Andaman Island may not seem like a big story but in fact it is.

That's because Boa is believed to be the last speaker of one of the worlds oldest language - Bo.

The languages in the Andamans are thought to originate from Africa and it is thought some may be 70,000 years old. This is, apparently, the second language to die out in the Andaman's in the past 3 months.

Professor Anvita Abbi said:

It is generally believed that all Andamanese languages might be the last representatives of those languages which go back to pre-Neolithic times

The Andamanese are believed to be among our earliest ancestors.
