The tool using Rooks.

I'm sure some of you will have heard about this but have a look at this story about the intelligence of Rooks.

Its long been known that Corvids are the brightest of birds and researchers have conducted tests on captive Rooks and found that the Rooks could make and use tools to solve different problems.

The Rooks skill rivalled those of other known tool users like chimps and New Caledonian crows.

Amazing clips on that link Pete, showing great intelligance.
I love Corvids. I reckon they're brighter than a lot of people I've met lol

And me!

My Rooks surprise me so often, and their teamwork is amazing too. Lifting a container of peanutcake held in the beaks of two Rooks. how they managed to synchronize the lift off/wingbeat on its own requires much on its own already.

WH Hudson has a lovely anecdote in his book Birds in a Village, about the fun you can have with free-flying tame Jays on the wing. At least as good fun as a dog even.

Have you ever come across anyone who lives with tame corvids? I'm not sure that all these new laws don't prevent you rescuing nestlings that have fallen out or whatever, so that's bit of lost culture now probably? Crazy.
