Well I'm on holiday, I have loads of photos but alas my mobile broadband is not quite good enough to uploads photos.
I've been to Salisbury and its MAGNFICENT Cathedral. Look around Old Wardour Castle and then headed to Stourhead admired its magnificent garden, oh and ate a nice piece of chocolate cake. And I also ticked my target church.
Whilst browsing today I came across a set of small paperbacks by Penguin the series was called English Journeys and they are priced at £4.99.
Each books is about 100 pages and takes as its theme an element the English Countryside. The books are an excerpt from a larger book. Engish Country Churches is an extract of the top 100 churches from Simon Jenkins book (yes that one!) excluding those top 100 churches that were in cities. There is a book of James Lees-Milne's travel around English Country Houses in the 40's as he tried to persuade owners to give there properties to the National Trust. Henry James on Cathedral's and Castles. Gertrude Jekyll on cottage gardens and poetry by Wordsworth and Gray and some diaries of Wiltshire by Kilvert. Its an eclectic mix and I may pick up one or two.
And never fear OC the photos will appear Wednesday.

Sounds some good places to visit to me :D - Stourhead is lovely and one of my favourite spots! Roll on early June - when I'll be residing in its grounds for a few days :D
Sounds like an enjoyable holiday so far Pete, especially if you have the sun I've got here at the moment.

Not sure if you are still in Salisbury, if you are take a look at the church in Stratford Sub Castle (just beneath Old Sarum) A lovely little church over 750 years old with loads of history. It was my parish church for 20 years. Also another amazing little church is at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/349530 Fifield Bavant. If you are in Salisbury go and check out the cinema entrance (amazing old tutor hall). The Haunch of Venison is an interesting pub (must be one of the smallest on earth!).
I haven't been to Langford Lakes but I hear they are good (hides etc). Must admit that I always head to Arne and Middlebere now that I'm in Dorset.
