Digital Radio anyone?

As I sat in my htoel room over the past few days I couldn't help but notice that there was very little on the telly I wanted to watch. When I watch telly at home it tends to be ITV3 for the old reruns of classic serials.

Now I know that freeview allows you access to Digital Radio and I've listened to and enjoyed this at home.

I am considering getting a personal DAB radio. It would get me five live in better than AM quality and I could listen to BBC 7. Does anyone have any experience with this?

The two models I was considering was the Roberts RD14 and the Pure Pocket DAB 1500

can any one tell me the difference between this Roberts RD14 and this Roberts RD14 and ths Roberts RD14. Other than the price!

The only thing i know about DAB! Is that they use a lot more power than the 'wireless'.

Do you have Sky/Digital on your telly? I might be wrong but I thought you get digital radio as part of the package and can listen to radio on your telly...

I was given a mini-hifi a while back... it plays CDs, tapes (it was one of the few that did) and also had a DAB radio. I tried it out, and the first song that came on was Zombie by the Cranberries. :-) I mean, if I could hear and recognize it, that was good.

I like it if they show the name of the song and artist using the scrolling bit, but I'm not sure all stations do equally well in that regard. I'm currently playing Fantasia para un Gentilhombre by Joaquin Rodrigo. Once I would never have known what it was. :-)

I don't play it much; just if the humour takes me.

The thing that annoys me about the tape section is that the symbols on the keys aren't picked out in another colour; they're just engraved in the keys, and as it's usually dark in that corner, I can never see which is the 'play' button or the 'stop' button (let alone distinguish them from the 'record' buttons. Aargh. I'm also convinced it's a lot slower winding and rewinding than the old machines used to be.

I have a Roberts DAB radio/alarm clock by my bed and it's good quality, but I don't know what the personal ones would be like - probably quite good.

On the other hand, do you really need DAB? I have an MP3 player which also has an FM radio built in. With that you could also load up lots of your favourite tunes as well as listen to the radio.
