Books and a Tag

As Trish discovered Saturday i have one or two books in my house. The problem is that there are always new books coming out so I never seem to be able to go back and reread old stuff. Books are a weakness!

I've just read a collection of Isaac Asimov stories called Return the of the Black Widowers. Essentially it was a selection of best of stories plus those stories Black Widower stories Asimov had published since the last collection before he died.

The Black Widowers are gentle puzzle stories and I didn't reread the early stories but I did feel that I ought to take an Asimov (or another classic SF author) away with me on my next holiday, anyone want to make a recommendation?

Curiously ALL I ever used to read was Science Fiction and Fantasy. Nowadays its the odd fantasy and predominantly mysteries and SF doesn't get a look in.

I love books they can be anything from a wonderful escape a chance to dream or to learn.

The BBC radio programme Desert Island Dics invites guests to imagine themselves castaways on a desert island, and to choose eight pieces of music to take with them. They are allowed one book, excluding the Bible or other religious work and the complete works of Shakespeare. They are also asked tp choose one luxury which must be inanimate and of no survival value.

So here is Pete's desert island challenge.

Name 8 Books excluding a religious book and the works of shakespeare and 8 pieces of music (albums allowed). Also choose one luxury which must have no survival value.

Any reader is tagged to add their list. Mine will follow.

Pete - I think "one or two" books is a slight understatement :)

I like that! I have one or two books myself! LOL LOL
I would take:
Homer's Ilias,
Austen's Pride and Prejudice
José Saramago's (the german title translated) City of the blind
Gernhardt's Collected Poems
Manetti's (german title translated) The novel of the fat woodcarver
Svevo's Zeno Cosini
Andersch (german title translated)The father of a murderer
Adams The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Are you sure Pete? Only eight books?
