Moving towards Summer

Here in my small part of the UK the sun has come out in force. I think we hit a balmy 75f/24c yesterday, sounds like my ideal all year round temperature.

As I type I can hear a Green Woodpecker yaffling away. Between offices yesterday I was sitting at some traffic lights as a Sparrowhawk went for a Sparrow, he missed and hte starlings went mental. On my way home a Magpie and Wood Pigeon flew right in front of me th magpie really giving the Pigeon what for.

This morning as I drove down the back lanes the hedgerows were more active and the Swallows were back in bigger numbers on there favourite stretch of wire.

Lots of young water birds about Canada Geese, Coots, Ducks and Lapwings.

Butterfly numbers are rising although they don't want to sit for the camera! but I've yet to see my first dragon or damsel (although Trish tells me she saw a large Red Damsel at her pond).

Lets hope that the summer of 2008 is better than last year.

Swallows on the way to work; what a great way to start a day.

Isn't it good to see all the butterflies again - for me, that really is one of the signs of summer - great.

its great to see all the butterflies etc returning. i saw a very small black dragonfly last Monday at Titchfield but it did not stay around long enough for me to identify it.

I've already seen lots of Butterflies, and like you don't appear to be able to get them to stop still!

I've also seen my first ever orange tip [:
