Ooh what a whopper!

A couple spotted a rather unsual male Great Spotted Woodpecker in their North Yorkshire garden.

"Woody" has rather a large beak, in fact the beak is approximately 120% bigger! but he has no trouble flying or feeding.

Apparently Woodpeckers are able to cope with the beak deformity becuase they have enormous tongues.

That's an amazing beak. Nice bird.

Oh, my! What a beak! I'm sure he's thriving well with a nice deformity like that. I have a nuthatch with an overgrown scissor bill that is living well!
