A Day in Rural Essex

So anyway I had a day off Flex.

I went to Hatfield Forest first. Some nice birds seen including a flock of 30+ Siskin, Great Spot and Green Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Treecreepers, Redwing, Mistle Trush, Song Thrush, Bullfinch, Great Crested Grebe and all the common stuff. Loads of Squirrels, Rabbits and a Fox.

These chaps were complaining about the ice!

From the Forest I went to visit a few churches, I stopped to eat my sarnie at the first which has a duck pond near it. Including a few exotics like a Puna Teal!

The "five parishes" is a group of churches near to Great Dunmow. Three of them
feature in "the book" and all three are different.

Little Easton has a nice setting and has a side chapel showing the great and the good. It also had an Airbase near it in World War II.

The church at Tilty was the chapel at the the gate to Tilty Abbey, which explains that amazing carved window.

Whereas Little Easton is a village church with agrandizement from a great family and Tilty is a monastic survival, Chickney is a simple church. There is no village and the church is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, I rather like its simpilicity.

So there you go the birds and churches of rural Essex.

Nothing better than old churches for building qwerks. Just as well the 'planners', did not exist then they would look like super markets (all the same).
Some nice pics love the stained glass.
