Mum

Well Dad phoned this morning to tell me that Mum will go into a hospice tomorrow. She has been getting progressively worse and I knew this was coming.

I worried about going away but was told that there was nothing I could do. If I was at home I'd be at work.

Dad was obviously very emotional when he rang but he just can't cope any more. He has been brilliant but she needs 24-7 care I told him not to feel guilty because there is nothing he can do.

I was a bit tearful and folk at work said go home but he has asked me not to and there is nothing I can do, I'd just sit and wait and wait. He has to make the decision and to be selfish and honest its much easier to cope at work.

So it is a case of preparing ourselves for the inevitable really.

I keep saying there is nothing I can do alot, you feel so flipping helpless.

Sorry for being a bit maudlin but I guess you understand I'm not feeling that chipper.

Oh no, Pete. :-(. I wish there was something better I could do or say to help. I agree it's easier to stay busy - though not to overdo anything stressful. Just do some light work and keep the TV or radio on.

Sorry to hear this sad News Pete, alas there is so little anyone can do in this situation. In the hospice she will get the advance care she needs, but it doesn't make it any easier for her family.

Now we will all say that we are really sorry cos we are.
One thing you can do Pete...be there for them.Your Dad will need you, even though he probably wont say it. I know you will be.

Big hugs Pete - will be thinking of you.

Spend as much time with her as you can, work permitting and allowing for a bit of space, both mental and physical for yourself.

Ring any time if you feel like a chat about nothing x

Pete - sorry to hear this. At least you know that your Mum's getting the best possible care.

I won't add to the advice already given but will add a big hug. xx

Unfortunately it's a road which we all must walk.

I'll add my comments, even though we've already discussed this. Keith and I send our thoughts to you all at this difficult time.

And your dad probably would appreciate you being there for some support, even though he says not to bother. I would go, even for a couple of hours, even though you can't do anything. Men seem to be proficient at putting on a brave face while really wanting help! ;)

Take care.
