Inland Birding

Well I arrived at Dave and Joy's about 7:45. We set off to find Dave's sooper dooper cafe to no avail so we settled for Tesco (to be fair we did find it at 5:30 on the way back!!).

Our first stop was Diddington for a Black Necked Grebe which was duly obliging. Also saw Yellowhammer, loads of Black Tailed Godwits, Goldeneye and Little and Great Crested Grebe. Our next target was a Red necked Grebe at Buckden Gravel pits which we missed. It was later reported (it was hiding that's our excuse!!). We did have Buzzard and Bullfinch.

Quick stop off at Grafham Water (not the reservoir bit) and then on to Stanwick Gravel Pits. The Green Winged Teal was "just around there" apparently. And well we totally didn't see it. Heard a Cetti's Warbler AND the first Chiffchaff of the year.

The plan now was to head up to Blatherwycke for Red Kites. However we saw one en-route so stopped at Rockingham for a nice lunch. We then headed to Eyebrook Reservoir to try again for Green Winged Teal and YAY. Also some dunlin for the day list. A stop further around the reservoir saw us add Goosander and Black Swan. We were told about a Little Owl tree by a local and this duly obliged. A bit too windy for the Shorted Ear Owl we thought. So popped in to Rutland Water for distant views of Great Northern Diver.

All inland and some good birds a total of 70+
