Whaling

I note with sadness that the International Whaling commision have backed a motion to overturn a moritorum on Whaling. Of course this doesn't mean an immediate return to Whaling but it does set a precedent and shows a worry trend.

Now it might seem a bit hypocritical for a meat-eater to oppose this, for instance I'll eat a cow, a pig, a lamb (ah sweet - can I have mint suace with that) or poultry. And of course I will eat duck (but not mallard - go figure). However in this instance I think that the killing is wrong. Firsly there is the issue of sustainability, we breed cows, sheep etc we don't whales and secondly we don't know how intelligent Whales are. They appear to have a very complex language as do Dolphins.

You would have hoped by now we might have evolved enough to stop killing everything because we can and would be mature enough to want to try and understand and perhaps communicate with these creatures if that is at all possible.

Personally, I think whaling is one of the cruelist evils man inflicts on another living creature, in pursuit of their greed. How that poor thing suffers with harpoons etc doesn't bear thinking about, it makes me feel sick to my stomach. And for what? Why is it necessary in this day and age? Imagine the horror and torment of them getting a female whale, whilst she is screaming to her calf. Bastards.

Sheer coincidence - we've both addressed the subject of man's inroads into the natural world - except that my post looks at the other end of the killing spectrum! LOL.

totally agree with you how can we go on killing these beautiful creatures we have a lot to learn from them. why is it money is spent on bombs, missiles and whatever else our governments decide to spend our money on, but never enough left for research in the things that really matter!!!
lighter note,, saw a beautiful pod of dolphins on saturday near polzeath just interacting with the tourist boats under their terms they stayed for half hour or so then they just swam off it was so magical waited 5 years in cornwall to see them , i feel very fortunate. we should be saving them not killing them, try listening to "wind on the water" by CROSBY and NASH
